Beagle Growth Chart: Weight by Age and When a Beagle Is Full Grown

By Beagle Brook, beagle breeder in Cincinnati, OH · · 2 min read

Most beagles reach their adult height by about 12 months and fill out to their adult weight by around 18 months. The chart below shows typical weights by age for both beagle sizes. Every puppy grows at their own pace, so treat these as rough ranges, not targets.

These are approximate ranges. Parents' size, sex (males are often a little heavier), diet and activity all play a part.

When do beagles stop growing?

  • Height: most of a beagle's growth in height happens in the first 6 to 9 months, and it's usually complete by about 12 months.
  • Weight and muscle: beagles keep filling out — broader chest, more muscle — until roughly 18 months.
  • Maturity: mentally, many beagles stay puppyish until 18 months to 2 years.

Beagle growth stages

8 to 12 weeks: your puppy comes home, eats four small meals a day and sleeps most of the day. See our puppy care guide.

3 to 6 months: the fastest growth. Adult teeth come in (expect chewing), and three meals a day is typical.

6 to 12 months: growth slows. Most beagles move to two meals a day, and to adult food around 12 months. Their adult coat comes in.

12 to 18 months: your beagle reaches adult height and fills out.

Is my beagle puppy growing normally?

Weight alone doesn't tell you much. Check their shape:

  • you can feel the ribs easily, without a thick layer of fat
  • there's a visible waist from above
  • they're energetic and eating well

If your puppy is losing weight, not gaining for several weeks, or seems lethargic, see your vet. Beagles are far more likely to be overweight than underweight — see fat beagle and best dog food for beagles.

How big will my beagle get?

The parents are the best predictor. A puppy from two 13-inch parents will usually stay in the 13-inch range. Read 13-inch vs. 15-inch beagles.
