How Much Does a Beagle Cost? Beagle Puppy Price and Lifetime Costs

By Beagle Brook, beagle breeder in Cincinnati, OH · · 3 min read

In 2026, a purebred beagle puppy from a reputable US breeder usually costs roughly $800 to $2,500, with puppies from show or champion lines sometimes priced higher. Adopting a beagle from a rescue typically costs $100 to $500. After the purchase, plan on around $1,000 to $2,500 a year for food, vet care and everything else. Here's what drives those numbers — and what you should expect to get for the price.

Beagle price at a glance

WhereTypical price
Reputable breeder (pet home)About $800 to $2,500
Show or champion linesOften $2,000 and up
Rescue or shelter adoptionAbout $100 to $500
"Too good to be true" listingsUnder a few hundred dollars — be very careful

These are typical ranges; prices vary by region and change over time. Every Beagle Brook puppy's price is shown on their page.

What affects a beagle puppy's price?

  • Health testing of the parents. Hip and eye exams and DNA tests for breed conditions cost money — and are worth paying for.
  • Veterinary care. Vet checks, vaccinations and deworming before a puppy leaves.
  • Registration. Full registration (breeding rights) usually costs more than limited registration. Every Beagle Brook puppy comes with full papers at no extra charge.
  • Microchip, food and supplies included with the puppy.
  • Bloodlines — show and field champion lines command higher prices.
  • Delivery — whether delivery is included or extra, and how far.
  • Demand and region. Prices are often higher in big cities and in spring.

Coat color shouldn't change the price much. Be cautious of big premiums for "rare" colors or for so-called pocket beagles.

What should be included in the price?

From a good breeder, the puppy price should include, at minimum:

  • a veterinarian health check, with a written record
  • age-appropriate vaccinations
  • a microchip
  • registration papers
  • a written sales agreement and health guarantee
  • ongoing advice

First-year costs of owning a beagle

Beyond the purchase price, a typical first year includes (estimates):

ItemTypical cost
Crate, bed, bowls, leash, harness, toys$150 to $400
Remaining puppy vaccinations and checkups$200 to $600
Spay or neuter$200 to $800
Food$300 to $700
Flea, tick and heartworm prevention$200 to $500
Puppy training classes$150 to $400
Pet insurance (optional)$300 to $700

Yearly cost of a beagle

After the first year, most owners spend around $1,000 to $2,500 a year on food, routine vet care, parasite prevention, treats, toys, grooming supplies and insurance. Emergencies and dental cleanings can add more, which is why many owners choose pet insurance or keep an emergency fund.

Price red flags

Puppy scams often use beagles. Walk away if a seller:

  • advertises beagle puppies for a fraction of normal prices
  • won't do a live video call before you pay
  • asks for gift cards, cryptocurrency or wire services like Western Union
  • adds surprise fees for "shipping insurance", "special crates" or "vaccination certificates"
  • pressures you to pay today

Questions

Why are some beagles so cheap?

Very low prices usually mean no health testing, little vet care — or no puppy at all. A well-bred beagle costs money to raise properly.

Are male or female beagles more expensive?

Usually not by much. Some breeders charge slightly more for females.

Is a 13-inch beagle more expensive than a 15-inch?

Not normally. Size variety rarely affects price from reputable breeders.

How much is a beagle deposit?

Deposits vary by breeder. At Beagle Brook a 50% deposit reserves your puppy and is part of the price; the rest is due at delivery. See our deposit policy.
